Aviation Manufacturing & Aircraft Hangar Flooring

Expert guidance for durable, chemical-resistant resinous flooring systems in aircraft hangars, aerospace manufacturing plants, maintenance facilities and aviation production areas.

Industrial Flooring for Aviation and Aerospace Facilities

Aircraft hangars and aviation manufacturing facilities require flooring systems that can withstand heavy aircraft, maintenance equipment, rolling loads, abrasion, impact and chemical exposure. Hydraulic fluids, aviation fuels, lubricants, solvents and cleaning chemicals can quickly damage an unsuitable coating.

Vested Floors helps facility owners, architects, engineers and general contractors evaluate these conditions and select appropriate aviation flooring systems. Our services include site evaluations, resinous flooring recommendations, system specifications, repair planning, contractor qualification and flooring bid review.

Aircraft Hangar Flooring Systems

Aircraft hangar flooring must support aircraft tires, maintenance stands, tugs, jacks, lifts, toolboxes and other heavy rolling equipment. The surface must also resist abrasion, impact, tire marking and exposure to fuels, oils and hydraulic fluids.

High-build epoxy flooring systems are commonly used in aircraft hangars because they create a seamless, durable and light-reflective surface. Depending on the facility, the system may include moisture-mitigation primers, epoxy body coats, aggregate reinforcement, safety markings and chemical-resistant urethane or other protective finish coats.

The correct aircraft hangar floor coating should be selected according to the concrete condition, aircraft loads, maintenance activities, chemical exposure and required return-to-service schedule.

Aviation Manufacturing and Aerospace Flooring

Aerospace manufacturing floors must perform under constant production traffic, heavy machinery, carts, lifts, assembly equipment and repetitive impact. Different departments within the same facility may require different flooring properties.

Production and assembly areas may benefit from high-build epoxy or resinous broadcast systems. Machine shops may require enhanced impact, abrasion and chemical resistance. Laboratories, electronics areas and sensitive production spaces may require static-control flooring. Warehouses and support areas may use different systems based on traffic and appearance requirements.

Vested Floors evaluates the operations within each area and helps develop flooring recommendations based on actual performance needs.

Flooring for Aircraft Maintenance and MRO Facilities

Aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities need floors that support frequent equipment movement while remaining clean, organized and easy to inspect. Seamless resinous flooring can improve light reflectivity, simplify cleaning and make dropped parts, leaking fluids and foreign object debris easier to identify.

A properly designed MRO flooring system can incorporate slip-resistant textures, work-zone colors, equipment locations, pedestrian walkways and aircraft positioning markings. The specification should also address anticipated chemicals, tire contact, heavy point loads and maintenance procedures.

Chemical-Resistant Aviation Flooring

Aviation facilities may expose floors to jet fuel, aviation gasoline, engine oils, lubricants, Skydrol, solvents, degreasers and phosphate-ester hydraulic fluids. These materials do not affect every resinous flooring system in the same way.

Skydrol and other aggressive aviation hydraulic fluids can soften, stain or damage coatings that were not selected for that exposure. The word “epoxy” alone does not establish chemical resistance. Resin chemistry, film thickness, exposure duration, temperature and cleanup procedures all influence performance.

Vested Floors reviews anticipated chemical exposures and available product-resistance data to help identify flooring systems and protective topcoats suited to the facility.

ESD and Static-Control Flooring for Aerospace Facilities

Electrostatic discharge can create concerns in areas where sensitive electronics, avionics, components or specialized equipment are manufactured, assembled, tested or repaired. These environments may require conductive or static-dissipative resinous flooring.

An ESD flooring specification should address the required electrical-resistance range, grounding method, concrete moisture, surface preparation, testing procedures and ongoing maintenance. Vested Floors can help project teams evaluate static-control flooring options and coordinate performance requirements for applicable aerospace and aviation spaces.

Safety Markings, Light Reflectivity and Facility Organization

Resinous aviation flooring can incorporate traffic aisles, pedestrian walkways, equipment zones, restricted areas, aircraft positioning guides and other safety markings. High-gloss or satin finishes in lighter colors may also improve light reflectivity and help create a cleaner, more professional working environment.

Color and texture should be selected according to maintenance requirements, lighting, traffic and slip-resistance needs. Markings should be incorporated into a complete flooring system rather than treated as an afterthought.

Performance Requirements for Aviation Flooring

A successful aviation flooring specification should consider:

• Aircraft size and wheel loads
• Aircraft jacks and concentrated point loads
• Tugs, forklifts, lifts and maintenance equipment
• Impact from tools, parts and production activity
• Tire staining and plasticizer migration
• Fuels, oils, hydraulic fluids and solvents
• Abrasion and repetitive rolling traffic
• Slip resistance and cleaning procedures
• Static-control requirements
• Concrete moisture and vapor transmission
• Existing cracks, joints and deteriorated coatings
• Safety colors, traffic aisles and work zones
• Installation schedule and required return to service

Evaluating these requirements before selecting a product helps reduce premature wear, chemical damage, delamination and other flooring failures.

Aviation and Aerospace Flooring Applications

Vested Floors provides industrial flooring guidance for:

• Private and commercial aircraft hangars
• Aerospace manufacturing plants
• Aircraft maintenance and MRO facilities
• Avionics assembly and testing areas
• Aircraft component manufacturing
• Machine shops and fabrication areas
• Paint and finishing departments
• Tool rooms and maintenance spaces
• Warehouses and parts-storage areas
• Laboratories and quality-control areas
• Helicopter hangars and service facilities
• Airport support and ground-service buildings

Each area is evaluated according to its traffic, loading, chemical, safety and operational requirements.

Why Work With Vested Floors?

Industrial flooring failures often begin with an incomplete evaluation, unsuitable product selection or unclear project scope. Vested Floors provides practical guidance based on the facility’s concrete conditions, operations and long-term performance requirements.

We help aviation facility owners, architects, engineers and general contractors compare flooring technologies, develop clear specifications and evaluate contractor proposals. Our goal is to help project teams make informed decisions and reduce the risk of premature flooring failure.

Vested Floors serves aviation and aerospace facilities throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and the Southeast.
